Making Beautiful Things!

As the eager eyed among you will know, I now make jewellery using acrylic paint!

I love painting with acrylic paints, they’re versatile, bright and, unlike oil paint, they dry quite quickly – which suits an impatient person like me!

One thing I didn’t like however, was the waste of paints, especially with acrylic paint pours. Seeing lovely designs flowing off the edge of my canvas was, quite frankly, doing my head in! So, I decided to see what I could do with these surplus designs…..

Bring on the jewellery!

It creates beautiful, eye-catching designs that are highlighted by selecting the right piece for the item I’m putting together – and best of all, it means there’s hardly anything wasted.

The beauty of doing this is that I can also design something particular before I set it to dry. I create specific shapes and designs in the paint, sometimes adding another colour in for a smoky effect or a bold contrast – the possibilities are endless!

Once the paint skin has dried and cured, you can really see the beautiful colours and opportunities in it. I use glass cabochons; these act like little magnifying glasses. So, when they are put over a design, man, do they bring it to life! They enhance the colours and design so much.

Each piece of jewellery has a unique design, even a ‘pair’ of earrings will differ slightly from its partner, and I love that! No matter where you wear them, you know that no one in the world will have the exact same pair.

Sometimes, I decide that a colour scheme is more suited to the fridge magnets that I make in the same way. We all have things that we need to pop on the fridge, maybe we need to display our children’s latest artwork or award, and a fridge magnet is the perfect way to do this. Again, using glass cabochons to slightly magnify the design, they are unique and eye catching.

Other times, I want a specific area to create a little pin badge using the same method.

You can always tell which colours I’ve been playing around with as the jewellery tends to come in small batches of those colours – and usually I’m covered in those colours too!

So, if you love having something beautiful, something that stands out from the crowd and is as unique as you are, you’ll love the pieces that I put together.
